Define Yourself with 8 Limbs
Looking for Muay Thai training in Wollongong that will deliver kick-ass cardio, burn calories like a furnace and learn to use your body as weapon? TotalFighter fit is the answer.
Muay Thai is a stand-up combat system that is long, mid and short range striking, sweeps and throws that really delivers on so many levels. Commonly called Thai boxing, this powerful and direct fighting style dates back hundreds of years. Often referred to as the art or science of 8 limbs, a boxer has two fists to defend and attack, a Muay Thai proponent has that x 4.
Muay Thai fighters strike with:
Fists
Elbows
Shins
Knees
Why Learn Muay Thai?
Muay Thai is my core cardio, total body conditioning and weight loss discipline. And when it comes to stand-up self defence, I honestly believe you can’t do better than learning the art of Muay Thai.
Because of its “octopus design”, it’s versatile and dynamic, exciting and brutal, fatiguing and challenging; an 8 limb “beast” that’s physically demanding and hugely rewarding. With the variety of kicks, punches, elbows and knees drills used, every strike will be raising your heart rate and engaging different parts of your body and the defensive movements are muscle tensing so you’ll be working and strengthening your body there too. This art of 8 limbs is perfect for losing body fat, gaining serious fitness and challenging your whole body.
New to the Sport?
Typically, we’ll start with hands (punching) then progress to elbows then knees and last of all, kicks. It’s a steady progression of skills and confidence. Please be aware that attempting to learn all four at once; punching, elbows, knees and kicks, is too overwhelming for most; “alien” limbs will be flying in all directions with little direction or balance.
Therefore, as per my boxing training philosophy, we need to crawl before we can walk. And before too long, you’ll be striking with 8-limb fluidity as you let the magic of Muay Thai materialise.
